Arizona Department of Education's School Finance

Arizona Department of Education's School Finance processes the state payments received by charter and district schools using student and other data submitted to the Arizona Department of Education. In addition to issuing memorandums and other updates, which are available through its website, School Finance has assigned an account analyst to each charter holder. After the Board approves certain changes to the charter contract, the charter holder must submit an Entity Profile Form online to update ADE’s records.

Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records Record Retention

The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records has developed retention schedules that apply to charter and district schools. The retention schedules cover a variety of records, including student records, financial records, and human resources/personnel records.

Arizona Corporation Commission

The charter contract requires the charter holder to be in good standing with the Arizona Corporation Commission (“ACC”). “Good standing” would include timely filing all applicable reports and forms with the ACC, including the charter holder’s annual report and notices of changes in officers, directors and/or shareholders.

Extracurricular Activity Tax Credit

Pursuant to A.R.S. §43-1089.01, an individual may claim a nonrefundable tax credit for making cash contributions or for certain fees paid to a public school located in Arizona for the support of extracurricular activities or character education programs. This tax credit is commonly referred to as the “extracurricular activity tax credit”. The Arizona Department of Revenue has released guidelines to assist public schools in understanding their statutory requirements pertaining to extracurricular tax credit monies.

Arizona Department of Education's Special Education

Exceptional Student Services (“ESS”) monitors charter and district schools adherence to federal and state special education requirements. ADE's ESS website includes resources for schools regarding all aspects of a school’s special education program from data requirements to program support.

Arizona Department of Education's Elementary and Secondary Education Act

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (“ESEA”), also known as No Child Left Behind, provides financial assistance through Title I to charter and district schools to meet the needs of educationally disadvantaged children. Within the Arizona Department of Education, Title I – ESEA monitors charter and district schools adherence to federal Title I requirements. In addition to various resources, which are available through its website, Title I – ESEA has assigned a Title I specialist to each charter holder and school district. View Title I specialist and then select “Monitoring Schedule” in the “Monitoring Information” section of the page.
